Mothers Committee

St George Girls High has had a Mothers’ Committee since the school began 100 years ago.

When do we meet?

Parents meet on the first Wednesday morning of each month from 10am – 12 noon except during school holidays. The Principal attends every meeting, and often another staff member, such as a Head Teacher, gives a presentation about an aspect of the school curriculum or other relevant topic.

The meetings are an excellent way to learn about the school and a valuable opportunity to ask questions of the Principal and Staff. They are held in an informal atmosphere and are a terrific way to get to know your daughter’s school.

What does the Committee do?

As well as providing a forum for liaison between parents and the school, the Committee has a major fundraising function through the co-ordination of the Uniform Shop. All profits raised from the shop are returned to the school and are used to fund necessary projects or purchase equipment for the school. For example:

  • Annually - approximately $12,000 is allocated to meet funding requests from all school faculties for classroom resources,
  • Annually - over $2,000 is allocated for academic, subject and community service awards,
  • In 2015 - $30,092.70 for the renovation of the Year 12 senior study.
  • In 2015 - installation of  EFTPOS in the uniform shop to facilitate credit card payments.
  • In 2014 - $38,500 joint funding for the refurbishment of the senior and junior girl's toilets,
  • In 2012 - over $13,540 contributed for special faculty funding for additional classroom resources,
  • In 2011 - $15,000 was contributed towards the Drama Studio refurbishment,
  • In 2008 - $50,000 contributed to assist in the upgrade of the school's technology infrastructure.

Additionally the Committee contributes to school life by organising the annual dinners and providing representatives on staff selection and annual report review panels. The Mother’s Committee is a wonderful way to contribute to your daughter’s school life.

Uniform Shop

The Uniform Shop opens at Wednesday lunchtimes during school terms and for several special trading days during the year including Year 7 Orientation Day. Volunteers are rostered on to assist in the shop on Wednesdays and for these special days. The assistance of any parents who are able to able to volunteer on a regular or causal basis would be gratefully appreciated. The Uniform Shop Co-ordinator can be contacted via the school office or an email to the Mothers' Committee.

Further information regarding the school uniform can be found at School Uniform with a full price list and list of opening days for the uniform shop.

Mother-Daughter Dinner

Every year the Mothers’ Committee organises a very successful Mother-Daughter dinner on the eve of Mother’s Day. This is a lovely opportunity for the school community to celebrate the precious relationship of mothers and daughters. Tickets sell out quickly to this highly enjoyable evening
